Doxa does not provide professional clinical counseling or professional mental health services.

What is Christian Counseling?

Christian counsel engages your life experiences and your response to these while carefully engaging the Bible and specifically the gospel of Jesus Christ in your life.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take health insurance. I would encourage you to contact your local church and inquire about their ability to assist financially. Scholarships may be available upon request.

What forms of payment do you take?

I use a system called SimplePractice. This is a secure system that allows me to send you an email to pay your invoice via Stripe with your credit or debit card. You can also choose to have it set up as an automatic payment.

MAKING APPOINTMENTS

How do I schedule an appointment?

The easiest way to schedule is by clicking the “book appointment” button at the top right of the screen and follow the instructions. It only takes about 5 minutes.

How soon can I meet with you?

Once I have received all the necessary paperwork, my hope is to contact you within 24-48 hours, not including weekends.

Also please remember that if you are going through an emergency, please call 911 immediately. I am not your emergency contact. If you are experiencing a crisis you should contact a physician, a local emergency room or the local police department.

How do I make appointments?

To schedule your initial appointment, you will need to complete the intake paperwork. After all of the appropriate intake forms have been submitted, I will contact you to schedule an initial appointment.

  1. To schedule an individual appointment, please complete the intake paperwork for yourself.

  2. If you are looking to pursue marriage or family counseling, I require completed intake paperwork for all individuals that will regularly be part of the counseling time. This means a husband and wife will each fill out their own intake form. Please note that at this time I only offer family counseling for teens and older.

  3. If you are pursuing family counseling all active participants must fill out their own intake form.

Do you have a cancellation fee?

I ask that you give at least a 24 hour notice for cancellations. If you fail to give me a 24 hour notice, or you fail to show up for your session, you will be charged the full session price for your missed appointment.

How do I cancel an appointment?

The easiest way to cancel is by clicking the “book appointment” button at the top of the screen and follow the instructions. You may cancel or reschedule your appointment 24 hours leading up to your scheduled appointment. You are also welcome to call my office at (971) 803-3225.

COUNSELING SESSIONS

How many sessions will I need?

Number of sessions varies for each client and counseling is tailored to each as needed. Some might need as little as a few sessions while others might need counseling for an extended period of time.

How often should I come to counseling?

Depending on what you are experiencing will normally determine how often to schedule counseling appointments. Usually clients will start the counseling process by coming weekly or bi-weekly.

How long do sessions last?

Counseling sessions typically last between 50-60 minutes. If you think a longer session will help your progress, we can discuss that in our meeting

Why does counseling cost so much?

The average cost per 50 minute counseling session within PDX is $120-150. If the price of counseling is significantly beyond your budget, I encourage you to contact your pastor, or the person in charge of mercy ministry at your church to see if the church is able to cover a percentage of the cost. If that is not an option, scholarships may be available upon request.

What’s the difference between marriage and family sessions?

Marriage sessions are when both husband and wife are present for a counseling session. Family sessions are typically when one or both parents are present with one or more adult children. I will work with you to determine what counseling format is the best fit for your situation. Please be advised that I currently only offer family counseling to children teens and older.

Any individual who is seen in counseling must have their paperwork completed and processed. For legal reasons, I cannot counsel individuals who have not completed this step.

Do both spouses come to every marriage session together?

Sometimes I will split up the husband and wife, one spouse one week, the other spouse the next. Much of this depends on the nature of the relationship, and the ability to do counseling work together.

Do you see children, teens and adults?

Currently, I see teenagers, along with adults, and seniors.

May I sit in and observe my teen’s session?

I commit to confidentiality with every person I meet with. With your teen child, he/she has the right to privacy in their session. However, if the teen desires for the parent to be informed of what is discussed in the session or wants them to attend then they have that option. In the forms sent to you for your first session there will be a consent form the teen will fill out and he/she can choose this option.

I believe that God has created family for a reason and that the parent/child relationship is a wonderful thing. I desire to the best of my ability to help parents care for their children in a loving, godly way and desire to give that opportunity when it is helpful and appropriate.

REMOTE COUNSELING

Who uses remote counseling?

Remote counseling is available for whomever wishes to use it. While I prefer the opportunity to meet with you in person, I understand that life’s circumstances can keep that from happening.

How do you do remote counseling?

Doxa uses a secure, HIPAA-compliant, video-conferencing service called Doxy.Me. Prior to your session, you will receive an e-mail from me with a link to log in. You will be placed in my digital waiting room until I am ready to open the session. It’s that simple; no username and password or creating online accounts.

Is it any different to get started with remote counseling versus in-person counseling?

The process for remote counseling begins the same way. Complete the Intake Paperwork, and I will get in touch with you to set up your appointment.

Do I need any special equipment?

You will need access to a strong internet connection, as well as access to a laptop, Chromebook, iPad, etc. Anything where you have access to a camera and microphone.
